Taken during the Icelandic Festival of Gimli, Manitoba, this series illustrates the marvel and magic which lies at the root of viking tradition and immigration culture. The pageantry and pride that the residents of Gimli showcase during this festival is unrivaled compared to most other ethnic festivals. As the photographer,  my goal was to capture all of the delight and uniqueness of Gimli; it's people and their struggle between of old and new ideas of identity. The Islendingadagurinn (Icelandic Festival) obviously attracts those of Icelandic descent but also those looking all sorts of curiosities and wonders.
