ICELANDIC ENCOUNTERS

Iceland's economic crisis stained the country like a volcanic eruption. Not only did the government fail to keep its country afloat, but it also dishonoured and betrayed its own people. Roads that were once brightened by governmental promise, remained obscured by lies and disappointment. In these difficult times, families came together and remembered the simple ways of life, the essentials. Although the country was financially crushed, the people remained. These are the people, strong and free, striving for equality and truthfulness in a time of political uncertainty. These are the people that shaped my understanding of resilience and perseverance.
